Celebrating the Life of Dizzy Gillespie

Join us for a family-friendly event to celebrate the life of trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, who was a member of the Bahá’í Faith. Festivities will include:

–Music and presentations by Professor Pharez Whitted, Director of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Jazz Orchestra and Diane Chandler Marshall, Director of Education and Arts Development at the Jazz Institute of Chicago.

–Performance by jazz quintet, “The Bop Syndicate.”

–A book release party for a biography for middle-grade readers, John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie: A Man a Trumpet, and a Journey to Bebop, written by Susan Engle.

Free admission. All ages welcome. Light refreshments provided.
